Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT DOES "BAM" STAND FOR?
BAM is a French acronym for Boîte à Musique, or “the Music Box”.
WHERE CAN I FIND BAM CASES?
In the USA, you can find stock of our cases through our partnered dealers or directly through our website. If you are outside of the USA or included territories, we encourage you to contact your local dealer. If you can't find the case you're looking for at your usually locations, don't hesitate to request that they order it from us!
DO YOU MAKE CUSTOM CASES?
Sorry, we do not make custom cases to order. If you are a manufacturer interested in a working with Bam to produce a case for your instruments, please email us at bam.cases@bamcases.com
HOW DOES A BAM CASE PROTECT MY INSTRUMENT?
To maintain optimal protection for your instrument, the interior of our semi-rigid cases are crafted to provide full support to the entirety of the instrument, reducing as much shock as possible using hand injected foam molds inserted into a high resilience reinforced fabric casing. Our hand injected foam inserts offer excellent resilience against drops or bumps that result in compression and shock.
WHAT ARE "HIGHTECH" CASES AND WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE FROM A REGULAR CASE?
Hightech cases are hard-shell cases made by Bam and are a result of our pioneered technology in which we use a triple layer shell structure; using a top layer of reinforced ABS (or other material depending on the line), a middle layer of hand injected foam, and a second bottom layer underneath, creating a light yet highly protective shell structure.
Thus, the industry standard was born. This technique has been the epitome of our cases for decades and are available in many different finishes and colors!
Non-Hightech cases/Semi-rigid cases normally come with a thicker single layer of ABS or are covered in high quality reinforced fabric while offering great protection at a better price point.
DO YOU PROVIDE MAINTENANCE ON YOUR CASES?
Should you need maintenance (repair of your case, replacement of some parts), please contact the dealer you purchased the case from. They will be able to assess the condition and repairs to be done and get in touch with us to assist. Alternatively, for cases in need of replacement parts, you can purchase them here.
HOW CAN I TAKE CARE OF MY CASE?
FOR THE INSIDE OF THE CASE:
In order to remove daily dust, you can vacuum the inside of your case using the lowest level of your vacuum cleaner and the brush attachment.
For stains, simply rub the fabric in a circle with a slightly damp cloth. BE CAREFUL of stain removers: let your case dry well for several hours and in the open position so as not to leave any residue on the fabric which could then damage your instrument.
FOR THE OUTSIDE OF THE CASE:
If you have a hard case (with ABS or polycarbonate shell), you can use a microfiber cloth and window cleaner to remove traces, finger prints, and paint.
For light scratches, use a little bit of fine grain car polish on a clean cloth, applying the polish to the area in small circular motions. Clean any residual polish with Windex. To restore shine to the area, we recommend Meguiar's® Ultimate Compound or equivalent.
For the cases with leather upper shell, you can use baby cleansing milk on a shammy leather.
To reduce or remove traces on a fabric covered case, a cloth slightly dampened with soapy water will suffice to clean it.
HOW TO MAINTAIN LATCHES:
Click the link or scan the QR code above to view a short video on maintaining your Series 2 hybrid latches. The inside mechanism of our latch is a compression spring system. These latches are the best in quality and longevity, but need a little care to maintain easy use: When they seem to be a little difficult to open and close, a drop of oil or a silicone-based lubricant will help.
HOW TO EXTEND THE LIFE OF A ZIPPER:
A zipper slider is made to open and close the teeth of the zipper. Be sure that the zipper is completely unzipped before opening the case to prevent damage to the teeth. The slider is designed to slide back and forth along the zipper. Therefore, you should not pull upward on the slider because it will loosen its jaws and eventually make the slider too loose to close the zipper properly. This is usually the first sign of a worn zipper and you should adjust it as soon as possible to avoid further problems.
To stop this problem, you can tighten the back of the slider with a set of pliers. Open the zipper all the way before starting so the slider is touching the material of the cover.
Lightly clamp the pliers along the side of the slider and press down. Make sure to apply the most pressure to the back of the slider. Be careful not to apply too much pressure at first. Use light pressure a few times until the slider is tight enough to slide along the zipper and properly close the teeth.
BAM STRAP SECURITY CARIBINERS:
These hooks have been developed by a manufacturer of mountain climbing equipment especially to answer our demand. The security screw system is extremely secure only if the locks are completely tightened before using them, as a hiker would do before climbing. Make sure to check the locks regularly and tighten them as needed before using the case.
To ensure optimum security, we recommend to place the hook with the screw facing out. While a plastic covering is provided, this will further decrease the chance of friction on the shell..
HEAT WARNING!
BE CAREFUL of heat sources: our cases are thermoformed, i.e. we use high temperatures to give them their shape. Leaving them in a car in direct sunlight, near a heater or a light bulb is very likely to deform or even melt your case.
WHAT ARE THERMOFORMED SHELLS?
The thermoforming techniques developed by Bam to manufacture the shells of the cases call for very reliable industrial processes allowing great regularity in the production results.
THE "CLASSIC" : SINGLE LAYER ABS
- Extremely strong
- Very resistant against shocks and puncture
- Textured or sleek look
THE "NEWTECH": DOUBLE LAYER STRUCTURE WITH A BAM IN HOUSE FOAM / PVC FOAM SKELETON
- ABS outer layer with an anti-scratch PMMA film
- Great rigidity of the case allowing easy opening and closing
- Light weight and resistant against shocks
THE "HIGHTECH": TRIPLE PLY STRUCTURE WITH FULL BAM FOAM / PVC FOAM CORE
- Ultra-light weight
- Extremely rigid
- Excellent resistance to shocks and temperature changes
THE BAM SEAL
- Each thermoformed case from Bam is equipped with a rigid PVC male/female "H" type seal. Shaped under heat, this seal ensures a hermetic closing and contributes to the rigidity of the case when it is closed.
HOW CAN I CHANGE MY COMBINATION LOCK CODE?
Combination Lock - Left and Right
The combination lock is factory set at "0-0-0".
To set your personal code:
1. First open the lock.
2. Hold the release mechanism in the open position to keep the metallic tongue inside the locking mechanism down.
3. Locate the copper colored tab with "A <--> B"
4. Slide the tab towards the center of the case using a nail or sturdy paper clip from the A position to the B position. This will hold the release button and the latch in the open position.
5. You can now freely move the dials to set your combination pattern.
6. Once your combination pattern is set, slide the tab from the B position back to the A position. This will let go of the release button.
7. You have now set your new combination!
Important Notes:
1. Make sure you remember your code.
2. It is possible to change your code as often as you like by repeating the above procedure step by step.
3. WARNING: Be careful! It is easy to inadvertently turn one of the combination dials with your finger while the copper tab is in the B position, creating a new combination that you have not chosen, without noticing. Your BAM case will be locked and you will have to find your new combination randomly...not a fun situation.
CAN I PUT MY CASE IN THE CARGO HOLD OF A PLANE WITHOUT RISK?
All our cases are intended to give the best possible protection to the instrument for the everyday commute and use. Nevertheless, we do not recommend to put any of our cases (except for the Flight Cover) in the cargo hold of a plane due to the subject of rigorous handling environments. Our cases are designed for excellent protection, but are not intended for rough and unsupervised handling*. If you use your case for air travel, we recommend to protect it with thick layers of bubble-packaging for example, before gate-checking it.
* Our warranty does not apply for damages occurred in such circumstances. Should you meet such problems, we advise you to file a claim with the airline company right away.
